I had spotted this cute, tucked-away coffee house/restaurant on Cottage Street in Bar Harbour yesterday, so we had breakfast here this morning prior to leaving the island to head down toward southern Maine. Everything is grown fresh, pesticide-free and is organic!
Bob won't let me have any of his eggs, so I'll have to try the homemade granola & yogurt, along with fresh-squeezed O.J....Don't be impressed...this is the healthiest meal I have eaten, and this is day 12!
All the waiters and waitresses look like they stepped out of the '60's...but I really thought this was a unique idea...one of them thought to hang chains from along the roof-line, and allow green vines to climb upward! GREAT EFFECT!
Bob's organic (and we all know how important ORGANIC is to BOB!) Eggs Benedict and homestyle potatoes...looks delicious!
After we eat breakfast, we begin our journey away from Bar Harbour :>( and pass this cute home whose occupant apparently makes these custom "schooner planters!" They really add to the home!
Our favorite home in Bar Harbour...modest, yet very lovely!
These are some handsome homes in Ellsworth, Maine, as we head down to York, and eventually Cape Cod in a few days.
A sailboat-inspired design makes this while bridge unusually majestic, alongside the older bridge (no longer in use by cares) alongside on the right...
This is the newer, very uniquely-designed bridge seen at a closer viewpoint.
Almost across the bridge and entering Buckport, Maine...
I was so glad to snap this corner French market (I think it's in Buckport, Maine) because it looks as if it's in Europe!
This is another of many Inns in New England, most of them Victorian in style, surrounded by huge trees and blooming flowers..
I could only capture the steeple as we whized by, but we have to include at LEAST ONE in this New England blog!
"Welcome home...dinner is served..."
Across the bridge lies an aging beauty that really needs just a bit of tender loving care to bring her youth back to life! She definitely has some great potential..a real "fixer-upper"!
This shop drew my attention while we were driving through beautiful Camden, Maine because of its bountiful variety of colorful flowers.
We had no reservations (actually we were planning on heading to Portsmouth, Maine, but decided to stop short at "York"), but we were drawn to this seaside hotel because it is 6 stories, across from a beautiful beach, and each room has an outside patio to enjoy the view...
I shot this pic from our car. All sorts of people are laughing and playing in and around the water...
While Bob checks in at "Union Bluff Hotel," I decided to use the telephoto lens to capture the crowd enjoying the sand and surf in York. Check out the buildings in the background!
The beach and beyond from our hotel porch...
Another view from our 4th story porch, taken just before we leave for Ogunquit and Perkin's Cove, Maine, about 15 minutes' drive from here in York.
Wouldn't you all just love to sit and relax on those patio chairs every evening before (and after) dinner?
How about this beauty, complete with patriotic decorations this July?
Bob and I drove past this serene golf course on the way to Perkin's Cove.
One of many regal Bed & Breakfasts in the Ogunquit town...
This is a quick "flash" of one of many Inns in the area entering Perkin's Cove in Ogunquit, Maine.
This is a teasing glimpse between two buildings at what lies nearby.
Bob celebrates finding the great establishment recommended to us by Mom and Dad!
This is a well-groomed grass/flowered area that sits between the two "Barnacle Billy" restaurants. The channel/boats are right up next to the restaurants.
This is Perkin's Cove in Ogunquit, Maine...Heather's Mom and Dad strongly recommended Bob and I eat dinner at "Barnacle Billy's Restaurant" at the edge of the harbor, so we DID and we LOVED the whole evening.
Just two examples of the homes across the channel at Perkin's Cove...
It's difficult to capture the beauty of it all in a 2-dimensional picture, but this is a view of the shoreline homes that overlook the channel to where we are standing. To the left is a functional drawbridge that is about to open to allow a tall-masted sailboat through to the ocean.
The drawbridge is up for a passing stunning sailboat, complete with lots of polished wood on the interior, which we admired as it rode by us.
I took this photograph from just inside the restaurant window while we were having our appetizers... I have NEVER had "lobster stew" before, but I highly recommend it to all of you!
Bob ordered Lobster sautee (tender chunks of sweet, succulent lobster sauteed in butter and, yes, MAYONNAISE), served with baked potato and delicious garlic bread...yummm...and don't forget the bowl of clam chowdah as an appetizer!
