July 7, Day 11

We are walking down some steps to the dock to meet our Captain...it didn't pan out however...
Bob and I had booked a 9:30 am. private (3-hour) boat tour with Cap'n. Winston Shaw, who was planning on showing us lighthouses, wildlife, and various historically-significant points about Bar Harbour Island. However, this is how the fog looked down at the docks at 10:00 am...so "NO GO!" Instead, Bob and I decided to drive around each of 4 sections of this island for the day.

This just doesn't get much greener than this. We love the old farmhouse/barn-shaped roofs over some of these houses. This is on the part of the island near Otter Cove.

See below...I wanted you to see the entire image, and I have to blog everyday backwards.

Bob and I drove through a picturesque small harbor town in Southwest Harbor, on the island of Bar Harbour (this is where Martha Stewart has a rather GRAND, but "quaint" compound) and we drove past a small artwork/clothing boutique, and I wanted to stop because this was in the storefront window and it intrigued me. Only $3200, but it is actually inlaid and painted wood in the image of the American flag, depicting many aspects of America - political, historical, and "pop culture." I wish I could have purchased it...you can find the artisans work (over 100 artists produce this wooden art) at "www.sticks.com."

I tried to shoot pics of great homes quickly, while Bob drives, and also try to frame each house with some of the landscaping to give you all a feel of the beauty.

One of many beautiful homes with great porches located in Trenton.

Continuing on our drive around the island, here we head back from Trenton toward Bar Harbour, where we are staying.

On Bar Harbour, this is one of the most acclaimed seafood restaurants, but non-pretentious and laid-back in atmosphere! We decided to eat an early dinner (since breakfast was later) and splurge downtown at night on ice cream and brownie sundaes...you all will not RECOGNIZE us when we return home, because our faces have doubled in width (not to mention the rest of us)!

Bob orders crab (and other seafood)-stuffed halibut, with fries and fresh veggies, along with ONE bourbon and Pepsi (no Coke is to be found on the Northeast).

This is livin'...a fresh lobster roll with fries, salad with creamy parmesan peppercorn dressing, and not one, but TWO glasses of chardonnay!
